Baker College Online Reports 12.7 Percent Winter Enrollment Increase
New student enrollment up 24.9 percent

FLINT, Mich. - Baker College Online officials today announced a 12.7 percent increase in winter quarter online enrollment compared to the same period in 2007. A total of 4,738 undergraduate students attended online classes exclusively during winter quarter 2008, with new student enrollment up 24.9 percent over last year.

"Affordable programs, current technology and the integration of the latest online tools such as blogs and wikis used in writing courses, continue to attract students interested in career-focused education," said Dr. Julia Teahen, president, Baker College Online. "And, the fact that there are no location requirements and students can actually work on their education from anywhere is a great advantage."

"Until I discovered Baker College Online, I thought obtaining a degree was virtually impossible," said Stefanie Lund, of Gulf Port, Louisiana, and a Baker Online student. "No matter how many times I've had to move over the past several years, all I had to do was reconnect to the Internet to continue my education. I could take college with me."

A total of 27,847 students throughout the Baker College system took Baker Online classes this winter quarter. This total includes:

  • 5,688 students who took 100 percent of their classes online, including 4,738 undergraduate students and 950 MBA students

  • 6,733 students who took a combination of online classes and campus-based classes

  • 15,426 students who took campus-based classes including some online coursework, a 3.36 percent increase over winter 2007
A total of 950 students were enrolled at Baker Center for Graduate Studies this winter, with all earning their MBAs completely online.
