BAKER COLLEGE ONLINE POSTS 16.7 PERCENT FALL ENROLLMENT INCREASE
Student enrollment more than triples over past five years

FLINT, Mich. - Officials at Baker College Online today announced a 16.7 percent increase in fall quarter online enrollment compared to the same period in 2005. This increase signifies a double-digit growth trend spanning more than a decade, as well as online enrollment that has more than tripled over the past five years, when 7,296 students were enrolled in Baker's distance learning program.

"The majority of Baker's online population are adult learners who differ from traditional college-age students in that their life and work experiences make them more autonomous, self-directed and goal-oriented," said Dr. Julia Teahen, president, Baker College Online. "These individuals are also constrained by time, scheduling and family commitments. Baker Online recognizes these pressures and strives to offer affordable, specialized, high demand programs attractive to adult learners."

A total of 26,696 students throughout the Baker College system took Baker Online classes this fall quarter. This total includes:

  • 5,147 students who took 100 percent of their classes online, including 4,161 undergraduate students and 986 MBA students
  • 5,943 students who took a combination of online classes and campus-based classes
  • 15,606 students who took campus-based classes including some online coursework, a 16.8 percent increase over fall 2005
The Baker Center for Graduate Studies and Baker Online are part of Baker College, the largest private college in Michigan.
