Baker College Online Posts 25 Percent Enrollment Increase for Fall Quarter, continuing double-digit growth trend

Baker Center for Graduate Studies student enrollment grows by 3.2 percent

FLINT, Mich. - Continuing a double-digit growth trend that spans 10 years, the Baker College Online distance learning program posted a 25 percent increase in fall quarter online undergraduate enrollment compared to the same period in 2004. A total of 3,603 undergraduate students attended online classes exclusively during fall quarter 2005.

According to Baker student Yvonne George, Baker Online was the logical choice when deciding to pursue higher education. As someone who initially put career ahead of education, she finds the flexibility of Baker's distance learning program ideal for her current lifestyle and career aspirations.

"I personally could not afford to take the time off required to complete another in-classroom degree program," said George. "The Baker Online program is a great alternative. I can work in my spare time and at my convenience."

A total of 22,893 students throughout the Baker College system took Baker Online classes this fall quarter. This total includes:

4,677 students who took 100 percent of their classes online, including 3,603 undergraduate students and 1,074 MBA students

4,856 students who took a combination of online classes and campus-based classes

13,360 students who took campus-based classes including some online coursework, a 49 percent increase over fall 2004

Also announced today was a 3.2 percent fall quarter student enrollment increase for Baker Center for Graduate Studies over fall quarter 2004. A total of 1,076 students were enrolled at Baker Center for Graduate Studies this fall, with 99 percent earning their MBAs completely online.

"During a recent informal student poll, affordability, flexibility and accreditation were cited most frequently as the primary reasons for attending Baker's online MBA program," said Mike Heberling, Ph.D., Baker College Center for Graduate Studies president.

The Baker Center for Graduate Studies and Baker Online are part of Baker College, the largest private college in Michigan.
