FLINT, Mich. - Baker Online officials today announced a 29.6 percent
increase in spring quarter undergraduate enrollment over the same period
in 2003. A record 2,443 undergraduate students attended online classes
exclusively during spring quarter 2004.
Also today, Baker College Center for Graduate Studies announced a 4.6
percent increase in enrollment, growing from 932 students spring quarter
2003 to 975 students spring quarter 2004. All but 50 Baker MBA students
took 100 percent of their classes online spring quarter.
"Again this quarter, our growth continues to be driven by the increasing
number of students who take 100 percent of their classes online," said
Dr. Julia Teahen, president, Baker College Online.
"This trend is based on two driving forces," added Mike Heberling,
Ph.D., Baker College Center for Graduate Studies president. "First,
adult learners have embraced technology in their daily lives and are
becoming more comfortable with online education. Second, the flexibility
factor of attending class from any place that has an Internet connection
is appealing for many adults looking to fit higher education into their
busy lives."
A total of 12,840 students throughout the Baker College system
participated in Baker Online classes during spring quarter. This total
includes the following:
3,368 students who took 100 percent of their classes online,
including 2,443 undergraduate students and 925 MBA students.
5,633 students who took a combination of online classes and
campus-based classes.
3,839 students who took campus-based classes including some online
coursework.
